Six former employees of Planned Parenthood Southeast, which operates in Alabama, have sued the organization alleging wrongful termination after raising concerns that the new CEO sought to deemphasize abortion and distance the affiliate from its pro-abortion mission. The lawsuit claims the CEO aimed to rebrand PPSE's mission away from abortion rights and reduce partnerships with the LGBT community, actions that led to a hostile work environment and the firing of staff who opposed these changes.

Alabama law defines abortion as the use of any instrument, medicine, drug, or device with the intent to terminate a pregnancy knowing it will likely cause the death of the unborn child, excluding procedures intended to save the life or health of the mother or unborn child. This distinction clarifies that medical interventions like c-sections or emergency deliveries, which may end a pregnancy but do not intend to cause fetal death, are not considered abortions under Alabama law.
